The Challenge

Sonae’s custom point-of-sale (POS) system, designed around SAP’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, offers the flexibility and manageability necessary to track, manage, and account for thousands of inventory items and transactions across all retail outlets However, testing this complex and highly customized system proved to be extremely challenging. While the client could automate some component tests, critical system testing still relied on manual methods. Additionally, the testing capacity would soon be surpassed by the rapid evolution of the company’s transaction models

The Solution

TestArchitect from LogiGear provided the customization to support both the client’s proprietary POS software and the ERP system.

LogiGear’s automation team created custom actions to recognize UI controls of the POS system and developed multi-language databases for testing purposes.

Furthermore, LogiGear’s development team worked in parallel with Sonae’s IT staff to automate the complex integration testing, enabling TestArchitect to interface with both the ERP and POS systems

The Result

The customized automation framework enabled Sonae to automate nearly all the POS test cases

The variations feature in TestArchitect allowed a single test case to be executed in multiple languages

By utilizing data-driven tests, internal testers could instantly conduct extensive regression testing whenever the client released software updates
