The Challenge
Ascom, wanted to exponentially improve the quality of its core product: Monitor Master. Its TEMS Monitor Master is a complex, distributed suite of applications used for end-to-end mobile network monitoring which enable mobile network operators to quickly pinpoint and resolve problems when they arise.
The TEMS Monitor Master platform uses fixed remote agents running 24×7 to test any service over GSM, GPRS, UMTS, HSDPA, LTE, CDMA, TD-SCDMA, PSTN, WiFi, and LAN bearers, and also support testing of services such as Web, Web 2.0, MMS, VVM, SMS, e-mail, Mobile TV, voice, and VoIP – in any combination. The agents provide detailed diagnostic information for root cause analysis, while the system also includes centralized reporting and data warehousing for short-term, long-term, and trend analysis reports. Most of the testing that Ascom had exercised was manual in nature, and Ascom felt the only way to scale was through software test automation
The Solution
Ascom needed to implement a testing model that improved the rate of automation testing. The initial target for function and regression testing was to perform progressive tests of at least two Ascom NT product builds per week. There were concerns about how much time it would take due to the complexity of the product.
LogiGear helped Ascom achieve a fully tested product at the end of their development & release cycle. This included test plans created by a group of engineers high on quality and low on costs to make it happen. The test plan included manual/ad-hoc testing, the development of new functional automated scripts, and the maintenance of existing test automation.
The Result
Overall, Ascom was provided a faster test execution, found bugs sooner in development and reduced costs while doing it.
Within just three months, Ascom products were fully tested by the end of the release cycle. Compared to previous test plans, the release cycle had a faster execution schedule. The new automated scripts further lowered the costs in the testing process.
