IT Administrator

As part of the IT team, the IT Administrator will oversee the daily hardware, software and networking within the organization.

This includes evaluating, installing, monitoring and maintaining Windows and Linux based software and licenses and servicing hardware in a virtualized environment; work with IT Administrators team in conjunction with external support and service organizations in the design, implementation, administration and support of servers, telephony, workstations, networks and other hardware and software as required.

This position requires strong technical knowledge, skills and expertise with a variety of IT networking technologies.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Maintain the internal networking infrastructure (such as firewalls, routers, and switches), the telephony infrastructure.
  • Maintaining/patching/troubleshoot our Windows, Linux, OSX system and user devices.
  • Manage secure connectivity between main office and remote offices.
  • Administer a Windows/Active Directory LDAP environment; corporate email systems (Microsoft Exchange, Office365).
  • Maintaining a virtualized Infrastructure platform.
  • Maintain Company data, backups and keeps documentation up to date; Ensuring offsite backups are maintained.
  • Implement and monitor network traffic and security monitoring software, and optimize server performance.
  • Provide technical support/coach for less experienced members.
  • Establish network/system guidelines and standards based on best practices.
  • Perform routine network/system maintenance and maintain control records.
  • Provide support for emergencies after hours.
  • Proactively seek where potential Infrastructure problems may occur and where improvements can be made.

Personal qualities

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Understanding the importance of critical work and delivering promptly.
  • Analytical with advanced problem solving skills, and quick to learn new technologies.
  • Autonomous and ability to work in a team, mentor and share knowledge.
  • Effective at managing multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, meeting deadlines and working well under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent design and documentation skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of IT Security Frameworks.
  • Flexibility in working time.

Strong proven experience with the following technologies

  • 5 years of pertinent experience in network management in a corporate environment: switch, router and firewall configuration and troubleshooting.
  • 5 years of pertinent experience in Linux/CentOS workstation and server management and troubleshooting (Linux Certificates would be an asset).
  • 5 years of pertinent experience in Windows Server 2012/2016 (MCSA Certification would be an asset).
  • VoIP Phone Systems: FreePBX, Asterisk.
  • Nagios network, server and log monitoring.

Strong knowledge of the following

  • Protocols such as IPsec, DNS, DHCP, ICMP, SMTP, HTTP, TCP/IP, FTP, LDAP, SSH, SIP.
  • LAN and WAN networking.
  • Layer 3 Routing.
  • Video Conferencing System.
  • Cloud Computing Platforms: Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Oracle.
  • Cloudy Concepts: Anything as a Service (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, XaaS).
